FWIW the chief problem with CDR is not so much the recorders, but the media
and the ability for certain players to be able to read them.
I cannot find any media that the NEC 2x, 3x & 4x readers that were put in
gw2k machines and gateway has been absolutely NO help. the older mitsumi's
will read Verbatim [blue] but not green or gold [maxell fuji tdk]. most
scsi drives seem to read most anything [if you have "current drivers"] as for
audio players its been 50/50 as to whether or not it will be compatable,
largely depending on the media and the machine in question, so you pick media
to be compatable with what ever you want to use it with, but there is no
universal standard which can easily read by anything... And I have been doing
data and audio - for maximum compatability it is necessary to use the pressed
silver media, which cannot be done in a standard cd burner, although you can
use the cdr as a master [more or less] so that a commercial firm can make
stacks of silver disks...

Richard.
