Hi Pat! I got tired a few years back of paying for a dedicated fax line
and decided to save about $350/year. I've used "ident-a-call" distinctive
ring on both my lines. On one line my telephone (Northern Telecom
Meridian 9417) has a selectable distinctive ring detector which switches
the calls automatically to my fax machine. Of Course some newer fax
machines have their own detection circuitry built-in. I use this line
mainly for Modem/FAX use. My other line has a main number for business
and the distinctive ring for my teenage kids' calls. One thing that'll
screwup fax reception is if you have Call-Waiting also. It might just
"beep" during an incoming FAX or MODEM call and mess up the data!
