I have always used 802.3 with my Novell 3.12.  Even the Macintosh gets
802.3.  Both Win95 and OS/2 Warp 4 are using 802.3, as is the server.  I
don't know really who's standard is who's but, somewhere during the
install I was told or read that 802.3 was really the best way for me to
go.  I believe I might have read this in the manual for one of the
Ethernet cards that I bought.
