8^) I have one on my rooftop tower. My bowtie antenna also uses rods to
make up the reflector.

Ummm. If he's using an HDTV these days, your sixer wouldn't interfere with
his TV. There's a big difference between an analog signal and a digital
signal. Most likely, your sixer's signals mixed with his old tv's
frequency multipliers or mixers.

When I was a youngster in the 50s, we had a ham that lived two houses up
and across the street from us. His xmitter interfered with our TV
reception and my parents complained to him about it. He didn't xmit during
primetime TV and everybody was happy. I don't think my dad knew that if he
complained to the FCC, they'd put a stop to his interfering, but I know my
dad never complained to the FCC.

That was a pretty smart thing to do...we made the mistake of using 'jumper
cables' to attach the 108" SS whip antenna to the tower. It worked, but we
never thought about using the tower to 'point' the signal...

I'll bet that they still needed tuned cavities to use those antennas,
unless they shut down the receivers during xmit.

Well, in those days most hams thought that the FCC screwed them by giving
their 11mtr band away for a citizen's radio service. Thus the name,
bootlegger...

That antenna came up as a project in 73 Magazine c1970s. I built a pair of
them using 1/2" PVC booms, #12 house wire for the yagi elements and the
same type of wire for the loops. I pushed them up to a height of 40 feet
or so and worked the repeaters behind a ridge that blocked an antenna's
line-of-sight to the mountain-top where a UHF ham repeater was located.

That was probably the best material to use. I tried to make one out of PVC
pipe for 10Mtrs, but the plastic just wasn' up to the task, bending any
which way it could.

I don't advertise it for good reason. I'd rather talk radio than kick
someone in the pants for not following the rules.

My attitude is that if it relates to radio, then it is on-topic.

My reasoning for that comes from an experience I had with the former
moderator of HAM, which I also moderate now. If CB came up in a
conversation, he'd jump on your case for mentioning it and give you a
warning; one more time and you're out of here. I fought him head to head
until he banned me from the HAM echo and I retaliated by creating another
HAM echo. That fight boiled over into other echoes that we both
frequented. Long story short: his girlfriend (whom he had been beating)
gave me the password to the echolisting and I used that to take the echo
away from him. He exited Fidonet soon thereafter.

Say what you want...we've been off-topic just in discussing TV antennas
and I won't object to that because it also includes topical things related
to radio. And it keeps the echo alive, which is also very important.
