Hi, Paul. PE> I currently run my BBS using a rexx script under OS/2. That's how I've don PE> it for the last 2 years or whatever, but now I want to change. I want the PE> mainline to be a C program, and I want to call the utilities (bt.exe etc) PE> from my C program, using system(). PE> Although not a problem under OS/2, I would also like to have the ability to PE> run from DOS if required. I know most people go to great lengths to not PE> call system() under DOS, in order to save memory, and use functions like PE> spawn etc. PE> I'd like to know whether the fact that my program is going to be quite smal PE> (consisting mainly of cd's and system's) is going to mean that I don't have PE> any problem worth bothering about under DOS. Probably not. If you think it might be, I have a very nice EMS or disk (if EMS isn't available) swapping routine. It's in ASM, but of course the interface is defined in Pascal, a programing language. PE> Oh, I'm also intending that this same program be used under Linux, so that PE> can boot my system under Linux or OS/2, and it does exactly the same thing PE> as far as the BBS callers can see. Forget it then. One really must ask why you're so keen on Linux, except I suppose as david begley said to you a couple of days ago, that stuff (*nix) is for the hackers who want to get down to the metal, rather than those who want to be productive quickly.
