Yes, I was wrong to explain but the result is what is important:
grep: etc/apt/apt.conf.d*: No such file or directory

Regarding your sentence "Your propensity for typo's makes me wonder if
that's the problem" I think it's a non-constructive evaluation that you
could avoid doing.
