The result would have been that people would have spoken up. Again take the
Intuit thing as an example.

A bunch of mostly happy (loyal even) intuit users mostly not bothered wrt drm.
A new version with DRM.
Message boards etc crowded with pissed off "ex-loyal" intuit
customers all up in arms....
Sales start to suffer as word gets out "don't by this Intuit
product" Intuit strip drm from the product.
