Prairie dogs have complex signals for describing invaders to their territories and their brains are quite small compared to ours. Darn good question. Merecats also have a system very similar to that, except with merecats, they only have 1 "lookout". My guess is not all that complex -- heck, even honey bees have "language" for describing locations and distances. > OTOH, how complex does speech need to be on the hunt? Prairie dogs have complex signals for describing invaders to their territories and their brains are quite small compared to ours. I haven't looked at anything about Neanderthals since college. > So what I'm left wondering is what exactly were the adaptations that our larger brains initially enabled. I don't know. I don't think that's been explained to any degree that made any sense. - Bob Comer "Randall Parker" wrote in message > Do you happen to know anything about current --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 379/45 1 633/267 |
