Before you decide to get any Parrot you need to make sure you know what you
are getting into. Any tame Parrot can work fine with children if you are not
raising them according to Spock. If you have problems telling the kids "no"
then a bird is not a good idea.
  The bird will be a family pet so make sure you all have the time needed,
they are a lot more work than a Dog or Cat.
  As to "adopting", this sounds alarm bells. A bird that has been
previously
owned can often be a problem and is not for an amateur. Many previously
owned birds are great pets, but many you see for sale are problems made by
someone who had it and did not know what they were doing, and now want to
get rid of the problem they created. These birds can often be turned into
great pets, but this is not something a new person to birds is likely to be
good at.
  Pet birds can be costly, are you sure you want to spend the money? The
cost of the bird is only a start, they need regular Vet checks, and may get
sick and need vet care. The large ones live as long as a human, 60+ years,
are you sure you want to make this kind of commitment?
