AA>AA>update, the same problem persisted. The maximum RECEIVE speed I
AA>AA>could get was 9600bps! TRANSFERs from my system were OK at
AA>AA>14.4k! ...only RECEIVING would fail miserably, and often the
AA>AA>connection would just quit.
AA>PM> I have not seen things like that except on fried modems.
AA>PM> It sounds like the incoming DSP channel is weak or
AA>PM> damaged.
AA>But would perhaps the LC be more prone to this failure? This is
AA>already my second LC. The 1st one developed exactly the same problem
AA>after only 3 months of use.
AA>I have an "original" v32bis external (my first Supra with only one
AA>PROM upgrade) that still operates fine, I have a 28.8k external that
AA>also is fine. All have operated on the same phone lines and computer
AA>equipment in the past. Only the LC's were "dying".
The DAA in the V.32bis and the 144LC may not be the same
(there have been several board builds of both), and it is
possible the DSP inputs are not as well protected or the
parts in the DAA (telco to DSP interface) don't protect
each other as well as the V.32bis does in the phone line
environment at your site.
