just to let you know that i have received your forwarded netmails from this
echo... however, they have not shown up here in this echo on my system...

replying to both messages in this one...

yes, i altered the message to remove the vulgarity and insinuation...
however, something is evidently still wrong with my rule as you should not
have seen that code... where is GIGO support and discussion taking place
these days? i see that you are (were?) listed as one of the moderators of
the GIGO echo... is it still listed and carried?

tc> ml> again, why should i [change the name of the files] when the robot
tc> ml> can't even get a larger than 8.3 filename correct when it tries to
tc> ml> make one...

tc> Just processed your latest batch of updates....and yes, there are some
tc> of the rules files that don't get named correctly and get shrunken by
tc> the robot.

thank you for confirming this...

tc> So, after cursing the thing, whirling my Robotmaster prayer wheel many
tc> times, cleaning my glasses and crossing my toes...I asked myself:

tc> How come the robot can't do something simply like handle a file name
tc> like arrowbridge.rul ?

as i've done numerous times in the last couple of years since this problem
cropped up...

tc> Like a thunderbolt hitting in the room, the truth was revealed...the
tc> robot is a DOS application...and as such doesn't know what to do with
tc> an 11 x 3 file name.

exactly! that's what i've been saying...

tc> So, you might want to humor us all and stick to 8 x 3 file name
tc> conventions...just as an experiment (g).

*=/I DO NOT SEND ANYTHING LARGER THAN 8.3 FILENAMES/=*

the bot tried to create those names... evidently it tried to name the the
same as the base name of the echotag... i don't know... i didn't write the
bot or any of the glue programs that you are using...

tc> Resubmit the MOD UPD and MOD RUL files that need to be corrected....and
tc> please email me with a ist of the echoes and I'll try to cull out the
tc> misnamed/mis-sized rules files.

thanks... i'll try to find some time to get the list together and get it
off to you...
