| subject: | Emerging from the Nightmare Nineties |
The gen-Xers blame everything on the baby boomers.
They thought all that was achieved in 1960s and 1970s would fall away
as the boomers got older.
Boy were they wrong.
My response: If you don't learn from your errors, you are doomed to
repeat them. If you try to recreate 1950s then you'll get 1960s. And
unlike the people behind 1950s, who for all their ignorance and
brutality tended to have a heart, the Xers are utterly heartless, cruel
and malicious.
Which will just mean that reaction against them is going to be that
much more powerful.
The people who set the tone for the decade to which I refer as the
Nightmare Nineties, for all their talk about "predators," were in fact
the worst predators themselves. What they did, was exploit the midlife
crises of baby boomers - and the visceral, blind, uninformed, poorly-
thought-out, and hysterical conclusions that the young people who had
no persepective beside the previous decade a half, and the weak-minded
and the hysterical among baby boomers, and the enemies of everything
that the 60s represented, drew from them - and use it to cash in with
their exploitative paranoid pop psychology books and paranoid
thrillers, while in the process poisoning America. Poisoning it with
their paranoia and their cruelty and their hatred and their viciousness
and their ignorance and deception (masked as claims of protection of
American public), and in so doing destroying the very best features of
American society.
Which features am I talking about? The spontaneity and goodwill and
openness that is required for meaningful freedom. The courage and
goodness and caring that is required for civic consciousness. The
loving, tender, open, poetic frame of mind that is necessary for
relationships worth having. And - far worse of all and most dangerously
of all to America's institutions and statehood - the presumption of
innocence until proven guilty.
What do I mean by the last statement? I mean, essentially, the
institution of the concept of crimethink. I mean the criminalization of
personalities and ways of thinking; the media-fanned paranoia that
claimed people criminal by virtue of how they thought. I mean creation
of a class of perpetual scapegoats - the people who, supposedly, based
on some childhood dynamic they had nothing to do with (and had no way
to redress), were to be designated as criminal for life - and who could
do nothing to change that criminal status no matter what they did, no
matter how much ethics and principles they acquired, no matter how
much work they did on themselves, and to be used as a repository for
the garbage that the rest of America, practicing ignorant soulless
ideologies, produced.
To the people behind this abomination - and to all who follow them - I
say: You, not any number of "sociopaths" or
"predators," are the true
danger to America. And to the people who follow them I repeat the words
of one of America's founders: The people who would sacrifice liberty
for security are not worthy of either.
And the people who overbearingly shove down the throats of people the
paranoia, while using the poisoning of the climate (and the desperate
actions to which it leads many people) to justify this paranoia as a
self-fulfilling prophecy, are a far greater menace to America - and
everything it claims to espouse as its principles - as well as any
concept of honor or understanding or even decency - than any number of
bogeymen they create and any number of people who, in that climate, are
moved to desperate actions.
To poison people against exploration - against acquisition of wisdom
about the world - against courage and openness - against art and poetry
and goodness of heart - against any action that can lead to meaningful
improvement in people's existence - against inspiration - against
developing beauty in self and seeing beauty and others and in the
world - against appreciation of life and a life worth living - against
existence, at long last, as we have been promised by the American
constitution - is to commit a greater sin against America - and
against American people - than any number of emotionally starved people
can possibly commit. It is to create a society that is poisoned; that
is cruel and malicious; that is ignorant and hateful and utterly full
of manure. Manure that finds its way into the most open souls and
ladens them with detritus, while turning America into a toilet,
consisting of prissy, hysterical, arrogant defecators insulated from
the consequences of their actions and those who live in sewers and
deal with everyone else's trash.
Gwen Stefani sang at about that time, "I'm just a girl, living in
captivity." She was right. The people who claimed to protect young
women did so by building cages around them and making life to them
inaccessible. They did so in names of feminism or psychology. In name
of feminism or psychology, they did not want the girls' suitors, or
families, or home cultures, to make the choices for them. They wanted
to make their choices for the girls, themselves - either demonizing
the suitor until the girl gave in or, if the girl left them, claiming
her to be mentally ill.
It is this utter hideousness and hypocrisy that I encountered all over
America. When a woman was with someone who abused her mentally and
physically and charmed his way into claims to speak for society while
claiming her to be insane, these scoundrels were nowhere to be seen;
when she was with someone however who really cared about her, that's
when they moved in to "protect" her. As someone whose parents tried all
my life to protect me - from things, such as hearbreak, that they found
impossible to endure but which I can endure very well and indeed thrive
on and milk for its poetic inspiration - who thrust their propensities
onto me and claimed to do things for me while in fact narcissistically
seeing themselves in me and seeking to destroy anything within me that
was not like them - I believe I speak for everyone who is at the
receiving end of such treatment that, far from achieving any valuable
result, it stunts the person's development, impoverishes their
experience and keeps them from becoming what they can be or having a
life worth having. It smothers the person and, far more than any kind
of foreign influence, keeps them from rising into accomplishment and
asserting their freedom of choice. And there are only two outcomes of
the preceding: Either the person gets destroyed, deprived of experience
and deprived of a life worth having, or else the person bursts through
the cages and recognizes the horror of the con that on him or her has
been played.
Given that the people behind the 90s hysteria claimed to give young
women freedom of choice, their utter hypocrisy - their paranoid, lying,
oppressive "protection" at the expense of any true liberty or true
freedom of choice - stands exposed. They did not give free choices to
the people they claimed to protect. They forced on them - their own,
far more oppressive and far more hideous and far more unnatural
choices. In ways more cruel, more heavy-handed and more overbearing
than anyone they claimed to be a psychopath or a rapist or a predator.
It is the latter realization that I seek to instil in the minds of
people of my generation who, through this social nastiness, have been
robbed of a youth - as well as in the minds of the people of previous
generations who have regard for America's founding principles and who
have anything in them of wisdom, goodwill or beauty. I am the true
protector of America - the true protector of its stated principles -
from vicious, toxic, parasitical and entombing social attitudes and
social movements and beliefs. Movements and beliefs that sought to
force down a population of a country designated as free by its founders
an unofficial tyranny and unofficial entrapment - that led people into
a boxed-in, hypocritical, paranoid, vicious existence while creating
through manipulation of social climate a class of scapegoats designated
for ongoing suffering and demonization.
I repeat. I seek to revitalize the America as what its founders
intended. I seek to defeat paranoia, cruelty, and entrapment of the
American population. And unlike the harpies on university campuses (and
jerks in the media), I do not seek to criminalize people for committing
crimethink or possessing a personality I don't like.
