I had that problem when I configured the Vibrant Graphics display
driver to use the VESA option for my ATI Mach 64 video card as per one
of the "readme" included with AutoCAD. I don't know that this is your
problem but it might be worth looking at. I ended up using the Panacea
driver that came with the ATI card. The latest version can be
downloaded from ATI's web site if you have internet access.
The problem also showed up when I ran the CONFIG command. After I had
finished and exited the command the CONFIG command would automatically
be recalled. Apparently a RETURN key was being entered when the graphics
came back.
It could also be as simple as hitting the RETURN key twice when
entering AutoCAD. As you may or may not know, the RETURN key recalls
the last command. When you first enter AutoCAD the RETURN key calls up
the HELP command since there wasn't a previous command.
