Well, you should. I've heard lots of rumors about virus supposed
to destroy hardware. There is no possible way to break for
example a CPU or a graphics card by software. You need a hammer. The
rumors are _just rumors_.
However there is possible to break a monitor by playing with
sync frequencies on fixed-frequency monitors (most low-end monitors)
since these frequencies are software controllable.
I also recall hearing about an Amiga virus which played a "tune" on 
the disk drive until it broke, but I'm not 100% sure it's true. Do
anyone here know?
But remember that above mentioned cases are rare exeptions.
