Barring any distortion in the case, *any* amount of missing skeg can be
welded in place to look like new again. In many cases, this can be done
without disassembling the drive as the oil inside the case will keep the
important stuff cool during the weld. Most prop repair shops do skegs also.
On another note, beware of the prop shops that simply weld, then grind the
repair. Proper blade balancing is only done by a few, yet is critical to
longevity of the drive components. Also, the repair shop should have all the
'pitch blocks' for propellers. Blade re-alignment and pitch is just as
critical to proper performance.
