The wire really needs to be stiff, maybe from a heavy duty coat hanger.
If you can bend it with a pliers, vice grip, etc., it's not heavy enough.
Use a vise and a hammer.

My experience is that rocking the board back and forth (left/right) works
better that trying to pull the board directly (up) out of the
TR-7.
