Aero is a whole collection of settings, I didn't turn aero off so much as
just some of the more cpu intensive aspects of it. It's pretty much just a
theme, so you can start with it then modify the theme.
As to did I find all the features of Aero, well no since they are still
being released, example would be windows Dreamscene, had to re-enable some
of the aero features to try that. Decided that was a waste of cpu as well.

Go for it, you will understand better once you start messing with it,
nothing terribly complex, it's just more windows.
