I hope it's your ISP that caused this to be posted a million times and not
your being impatient. Impatience and birds don't mix.
IMHO, pets make terrible gifts for the reasons you cited. You don't know
much about them. I've had my lovebird (single one) for 1-1/2 years and I'm
still learning about her daily. I did research on the Web and bought a book
about them and read up for a couple of months before I ever purchased
Peaches.
AND, keep them away from your dog. I don't care how friendly the dog is.
They don't know you yet and sure don't know their new home or your dog (and
vice versa).
Oh, and another thing - the old myth about lovebirds must be in pairs. You
have no idea if this is a mated pair or just a couple of birds. But with
two and my experience with parakeets, they will distract each other and make
"training" them more difficult. A bird will play with another bird rather
than interact with a strange human.
