| subject: | where the hell is my global warming? |
Replying to a message of Geo. to All: G> Oh and don't forget that stuff in laundry detergent that caused algae G> growth (phosphates?), pffft we could use that now.. algae removes G> co2.. Yep. Phosphates. >> I'm not sure how many will die for "carbon footprints" but it could be >> potentially all of us, as I'm coming to believe that if there is any >> "human caused" global warming, it in itself may be the only thing that >> allows us to make it through the coming ice age that they, the "Global >> Coolists," were predicting a mere 30 years ago... G> I agree, however it's also clear that CO2 levels are sharply up. This G> does need to be addressed even if it's not causing global warming. The G> thing that bothers me is no talk about giving property tax breaks if G> you replace your lawn with forest, why can't they come up with helpful G> ideas like that which would save us money instead of costing us money? G> Removal of lawn in favor of forest not only produces more oxygen and G> reduces co2 levels, it also means no lawn mowers so less co2 G> emissions. It means less direct wind against the house in winter, G> burns less heating oil, it means more shade in summer so air G> conditioners don't burn as much electricity, another savings of both G> money and co2 emissions, etc.. G> Oh hey here's a thought, if someone replaces an old oil burring furnace G> with a new 90% efficient model, let them take the entire cost of the G> new furnace as a tax deduction against their gross for the next few G> years, that ought to motivate a bunch of folks to become more G> efficient and save them money and reduce our dependence on foreign G> oil. Works for me. I'd much rather have a propane tank in the yard than 220 gallons of fuel oil in the basement. G> In this country we have vast plaines where we could easily plant G> genetically engineered fast growing pine forests, why no talk about G> that as a way to reduce co2 output? Water, lack thereof. Especially surface water. Several years ago I drove Nebraska highway 2 from Alliance to Lincoln. The road passes a national forest somewhere along the way, big sign on the side of the road ... not a tree in sight. G> We can easily cause algae blooms G> in the open oceans, another co2 reducer. Tax coal burning electricity G> generation and use every dime of tax to subsidize pebble bed reactor G> construction. Instead of California passing a law to make florescent G> light bulbs required, pass a law so that they can be sold with no G> sales tax while other bulbs are subject to sales tax. G> Instead they want us to burn alcohol laden fuel as the big solution and G> this after ADM bought all the major domestic ethanol producers? I've run 10% ethanol in my vehicles since 1979, never had a problem with it. One problem it solves is gas line freezes in extremely cold weather, the alcohol doesn't allow moisture to build up in the gas tank. It works like HEET in that regard, and you don't have to remember to add a bottle every fillup. G> Oh and G> using corn as an ethanol source, ADM is supermarket to the world, a G> food company, wonder how this will affect their bottom line. Get G> real.. Actually, Cargill handles more grain than does ADM. In fact Cargill handles more grain than does anybody else, it's one of the biggest companies that nobody ever heard of. --- FleetStreet 1.19+* Origin: Bob's Boneyard, Emerson, Iowa (1:2905/3) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 2905/3 14/0 5 140/1 123/500 379/1 633/267 |
