                   Hayes Gives Away 11 Grand Prizes
                    to Richard Petty Driving School
               to Customers and Participating Retailers
 
 
     Atlanta, GA, 2 August 1996--Hayes Microcomputer Products, Inc.
today announced its NASCAR retail promotion for national retailers and
retail consumers.  Retail store representatives and store customers of
participating retail chains have a chance to win an "Experience of a
Lifetime" day at the Richard Petty Driving School.  At the Petty
Driving School, winners will learn to drive Winston Cup stock cars at
the Atlanta or Charlotte Motor Speedway.
 
     Hayes NASCAR Retail Promotion will run through November 30, 1996
at CompUSA, Micro Center, Elek-Tek, Future Shop, Fry's, London Drug,
CompuSmart and Rockwell Computer Supply.  Hayes will award a day at
the Richard Petty Driving School to one retail manager or
representative at each retail chain and to one store customer from
each of the participating retail store chains for a total of 11 Grand
Prizes.  These Grand Prizes include two passes to the driving school,
airfare, and hotel accommodations.
 
     Drawings for Grand Prizes will be held at Hayes corporate
headquarters on December 15, 1996.  Winners will be notified by
telephone.
 
     In addition, Hayes NASCAR show car will be on display on a
rotating schedule at participating retail stores during the promotion.
When the Hayes show car appears at a store, drawings will be held
every hour for a chance to win a Hayes remote controlled car which
will be delivered personally to each winner at the time of the
drawing.  Free bumper stickers will be given to all store visitors and
Hayes hats and T-shirts will be given to customers who purchase a
Hayes product.
 
     Hayes will advertise its NASCAR retail promotion through local
radio stations, newspapers, store flyers, posters and signs, and floor
stacks.  Retail representatives and managers will be notified about
Hayes NASCAR retail promotion through a special mailing, a monthly
fax, posters, and Hayes News Quarterly, a newsletter for retail
professionals.
