JA+Would love to find a set of Carver Platinums for cheap. Although
  +I have never heard a pair in person, I have never read anything
  +but glowing reports AND that several of the reviewers from different
  +mags own them for their personal home systems. That says a lot!

  Check the current traffic with Dan Dunfree.  The Platinums may not be 
vailable, but their components are!  You can purchase the ribbons, long 
throw woofers direct from Carver and a significantly improved crossover 
network called the Clearview from a Carver engineer.  Mount the drivers 
on an infinite baffle with a solid base or better yet combine with some 
NHT woofers and viola...super Platinums... that are said to outperorm 
the Genesis monster $80k system that also uses the SAME Carver ribbons!
