| subject: | Re: Clinton`s Storm Troopers |
From: John Beamish
When I went back to U (night school) to get my degree, the first course I
took was a Humanities ("Freedom and the Individual"). It was a
*fabulous* course. We started with free will, Plato and Greek notions of
political freedom; we moved into politics and political philosophy
(including a lecture about Kennedy's assassination that left you reeling at
the co-incidences and possible interpretations); and we concluded with a
couple of lectures about contemporary discussions of freedom in a
"global village" context.
I was getting pretty bummed out by the opening of my eyes to the decreasing
freedom I thought I had. I went to the prof, had a very good chat with him
and stuck it out to the end. I haven't been able to look at
"freedom" in a democracy or a totalitarian system (and there is
*precious* *little* to distinguish between them) in the same way since.
