Not really unix, but POSIX-compliant. And David Cutler, one of the main
designers of NT, used to be working for DEC and was an important developer of
DEC's PDP/11 and VAX minicomputers and it's VMS operating system. NT's
architecture looks more like VMS than like unix. Although the microkernel 
itself
has a lot of unix similarities (preemptive multitasking, multi-threaded,
anonymous and named pipes, shared memory, etc.)...
