 Hello Jane,
TM> The ONE already identified toxin that has caused more brain damage
TM> including the kind that leads to social pathology and criminal
TM> behavior isn't even a high tech toxin; it's LEAD.
JK> THAT I knew about....which is why paints changed and so did our
JK> gasoline to exclude lead. I am certain that there are high levels in
JK> some folks if we would only test for them.
There is a VAST amount of lead all around us - much more than most
of us think. And we are paying the price in high crime rates and
       low production.
But what the hey, its just the cost of doing (corporate) business.
And anyone who watches TV knows that petrochemical companies
("people do") are the SAVIOURS of our environment. Its sad when
some of the minds who are teaching our children buy this line of
       horsepuckey.
Its time we put a stop to having K-12 environmental curiculea
designed by chemical industry PR people.
      From Peter Monatague's RACHEL# 553 newsletter:
"An eye-opening new book describes the nearly-complete failure of all
our attempts to regulate the behavior of the chemical corporations.
TOXIC DECEPTION, by Dan Fagin and Marianne Lavelle,[1] is subtitled
"How the Chemical Industry Manipulates Science, Bends the Law, and
Endangers Your Health." In his day job, Dan Fagin writes for NEWSDAY
(the Long Island newspaper) and Marianne Lavelle writes for the
NATIONAL LAW JOURNAL. Both are award-winning investigative
reporters, and this book shows why: it is thorough and
thoroughly-documented, even-handed, careful in its conclusions, and
absolutely astonishing in how grim a picture it paints of our
corporatized democracy. Even those of us who study
chemicals-and-health full-time have never put all the pieces together
      the way these two have."

TM> But since these mass murderers (many of whom also sit on the boards
TM> of international tobacco companies) are all rich white men, we
on't
 TM> talk about it.
JK> Long since past time we did. And, some of them are rich, white women.
Since this is also the same small crowd that owns the major TV and
radio broadcast networks and newspaper chains. Look at what
happened to Gary Webb, author of the Dark Alliance series exposing
the CIA's role in Contra drug smuggling operations. He got demoted
and tranferred to a rural bureau.
We are decieving ourselves if we think that govt. agencies like the
FDA are really protecting our health. The FDA has successfully
created the false perception that it is protecting us. It allows
toxins in our food production that should not be allowed at all.
And it just plain IGNORES 90% of the chemicals in wide use, and only
looks at those chenicals that industry wants it to look at.
The reason we all should go out of our way to eat organic foods is to
avoid accumulating the toxins contained in commercial foods.
I'm lucky to live in an area where local organic farmers make a wide
selection of produce available, year round. I still buy tropicals,
mostly from Mexico, but I wash them well with soap before using.
I'm lucky, too, that I didn't have to eat toxic commercial foods
while my body was at that crucial deveopmental phase, the first 10
years. Organic foods were the order of the day in the 30s and 40s.
The chemical industry didn't begin to mushroom to its current size
      until WW II.
Carcinogenesis is a very slow and lenghty process, typically
involving decades in humans, according to a leading oncologist.
And thus the effects of accumulations of subclinical amounts of
endotoxins would not likely become apparent in a lesser span of time.
We (and our children) will be paying the price for industrialists'
greed for many generations to come (if we're lucky). If we're not so
lucky there won't be that many more generations of us.
      Ty
