-=> Quoting Sean Dennis to Nancy Backus on 11-13-08 13:11 <=- SD> two-the BBS and the web server (I tend to run the web server on a SD> seperate machine so in case the board goes down there's no break in SD> service for my websites). Makes sense. NB>> Understood. Here's to a faster and complete healing... but I NB>> certainly can relate, as I broke my ankle in early 2005, and I still NB>> have to be careful of it... still limiting stairs, etc. SD> The weirdest part is that the other joint in the wrist hurts, not the SD> one I broke. I need to go get a wrist brace today, while I'm thinking SD> of it, to use while I move heavy objects (like boxes of books) around. Probably compensation. The body often does compensate for a hurt part by trying to use another... mine is a past master at it... compensates freely and well, not at all wisely often, but always way too well... ;) The brace is a good idea, hope you did already get it. :) You really don't want to reinjure the break... or injure something else in the process... SD> I figure it'll be a few years before it's healed anywhere near SD> complete, but my orthopedic surgeon said it would never be completely SD> healed because of how bad of a break it was. Near-normal use may be all you (and I) will attain... but that's better than none (or near-none) at all. NB>> One does indeed hope. :) Sufficient backwards compatibility to not NB>> shut out those with "legacy" equipment, and sufficient use of newer NB>> technology to include those to whom such isn't even a memory... ;) NB>> And creative programmers to fill the gap with workable solutions. :) SD> You can't say that about many things in today's world. Heck, my new SD> BBS is SPITFIRE BBS running under Windows XP Professional-how's that SD> for a melding of the new and the old? True... The bbs world always has been such a hodge-podge (said quite lovingly, and with true appreciation, mind you) of systems and softwares, to say nothing of the characters running and writing such, that some cross-platform compatibility has always been built-in or at least considered. The hobbyist/hacker mentality of make-it-work and/or make-do... :) Case in point, and ontopicizer, the great job that George Hatchew did with writing the Bluewave doors and readers... and the subsequent mods that he and then others did to make the doors work for many different kinds of software and the readers for not just native-BW packets but also for QWK. And then the Y2K fixes by Dale and my hubby... All of which means that we can still be using Bluewave, despite all the changes in the meantime both to computers and to the bbs system as a whole... SD> ... If a wife always laughs at her husband's jokes, is he funny or she SD> smart? Yes. Sometimes the first, sometimes the latter, often both. :) ttyl neb ...
