One of the "Free" avs does have a commandline scanners, but it uses as much or
more processing power than the resident scanners do.. I think wht it does is
just fires up the resident scanner database until finished scanning then shuts
it back down.. I tried it on the old XP machine and it, and every other newer
virus scanner just slows it to a crawl.. it'll run the scanners, but thats all
it'll run.. it's getting pitiful that the AV tools are getting so much
overhead.. (and everything else for that matter) take SBBS, it is a VERY
powerful communications package, not just for its time.. It still is today,
compared to many different phpBB's and other social web type products, and
looks at its very small overhead and light footprint for all the stuff that it
offers compared to all the others.

I've wondered if a lot of virus and trojans are put out by the very people who
sell the antivirus software.

I know most of the ones back in the day were mainly created by bored kids with
nothing to do so they just do it for the heck of it.. now there are a lot more
of them done for financial reasons.. but then there are others still out there
that really serve no purpose but to just bea malicious.
