Howdy Neighbor!
RA> Have you seen the recent posting of the Mod for the PRO-43 which opens

Now the capability (if possible) of scanning bands from shortwave to 1300MHz
sounds wonderful. In reality, scanning shortwave is impractical. Take it
from one who has tried "scanning" shortwave, it's impossible. With the
characteristics of shortwave signals, setting the squelch is impossible,
unless you want to only receive the strongest stations. Many times
the radio will speed over a frequency that might be interesting, because the
squelch is set too high. Oftimes the interference is so high that even with
the squelch turned all the way up, noise will still get through, but the
stations/frequencies won't. Your best bet, if you want shortwave and 30-1300
MHz, is to buy separate radios. Since this is the ScanRadio conference, I
won't digress too far about shortwave. But I own an Icom SW receiver, the
IC-R71A. It's a wonderful receiver, and I love it! But the scan capability is
totally useless.
