subject: Hello

SB>I announced two weeks ago that it is spring; that the crocuses are
SB>growing, the grass is getting green; and the forsythia and cherry
SB>blossoms are about to bloom, and I will *not* sucumb to any of this
SB>talk about snow and cold. It *is* spring, I tell you. (VBG)
Here, the crocuses are over, the forsythia is on it's way out (mine
is all gone, but down the road, there's still several in full glory).
A neighbor's Bradford Pears are littering their blossoms all over my
yard, and a nearby Plum is also dropping it's blooms. Some of the early
daffodills are done, some are at their peak, and later ones (and some
tulips) are about to explode in a riot of color. My first iris and tulip
bloomed today, another neighbor's crabapples are a-blaze, my redbuds
are cloaking their limbs with a soft purple, and my dogwoods are just
about to unfold their blossoms. The grass is a rich emerald green, has
already been mowed once and needs it again, if the rain will just hold
off for a few days to let the ground dry out enough.
I am also rather pleased to announce that, of the Sassafras saplings
which were transfered to pots from the woods behind the house, three
now have small green buds on the top, and are about to receive extra
special care, lest the local rabbit population decimate them (squirrels
have been busily munching on the Sweetgum's buds, as they do just about
every year). Alas, a few Sassafras were transplanted last fall to our
Florida property, where the local deer population nipped them off at
ground level, along with about 150 liriopa plants I had carefully set
out (ungrateful Bambi!). Winter has very definitely left us here (except
for one last, feeble gasp last week), and even I have finally crawled
out of semi-hibernation...
