Bro. Michael, May I add some more information to your message on tongues? I
am of the Holiness Pentecost movement (Oneness). Yes I believe that if you
receive the Ruach HaKodesh (Holy Ghost) you will have a witness of other
tongues. There is a gift of Tongues mentioned in 1st Cor. that is for the
edification of the church. But there is a personal evidence of Tongues that
is manifested through the Spirit of Christ, which is in you.
Paul said that if any speak in Tongues and there be no one to interpret, let
him keep silent in the church (do not cause a disturbance) and speak to
himself and G-d.
Though the apostles used Aramaic, most could and would use the Hebrew tongue
as well. Many of the those that would travel from far points, as did these
that heard the disciples speak in their own languages, were very well taught
in the Hebrew language as well. If Hebrew was spoken, many of those that
heard would of recognized it as such and would not of found it to be
surprising. The apostles were not ignorant of Hebrew but were not schooled by
any of the Torah scholars of the day, so were considered ignorant and
unlearned men by the lawyers and scribes.
When Paul was taken at Jerusalem, as he was on the stairs, called out to the
common people in the Hebrew tongue, which when they heard him speak in the
Holy Tongue, held their peace.
Besides, Aramaic is not so far removed from the Tongue that some words would
not be recognized by anyone.
On the original day of Shavuot (Pentecost), at Sinai when G-d delivered the
commandments to the people, He spoke to all the nations to receive these laws
of His Torah. Yet only the people of Israel would hear and obey.
It said there were thunderings. This was the voice of G-d speaking in the
languages of the nations. According to Jewish history, flames of fire sat
upon each and every one of them in the camp. Sound familiar?
Hope to hear more from you in this echo. Your's in Christ.
