Obviously the installer messed up somewhere in the installation procedure.
The Sherwood mods, when properly installed do work very well. You will have
to look inside and trace the installation wiring against the instructions
and undo the damage. The fact the S meter doesn't work properly indicates
the fault is not in the meter movement itself but probably an electrical
problem of some kind.

Subject: [drakelist] R-4C S Meter

Hello all:

I have an R-4C in which the S Meter does not read properly - the strongest
signals push the meter to S-3 at most, and this is with the meter
sensitivity set to maximum. The receiver itself is plenty sensitive. My
rig has the Sherwood product detector and audio amp mods installed. When I
got the rig a few years ago, I was told the S meter did not work properly
and it was related to the installation of one of the mods. Has anyone else
heard of this issue with any of the Sherwood mods and/or know the fix?
Perhaps a change in one of the resistor values in the metering circuitry is
called for?

Thanks

Richard, AB4ZT
