Replying to a message of Carol Shenkenberger to Bob Ackley: CS>>> Do you know and what did you use with your dog? >> >> No. I just know that the dog was an inpatient at the vet's for a week >> and o an IV of some sort. The vet in Red Oak gave me some stuff - a >> preventive - that he said they use for greyhounds. Dunno what it is, >> but it has to live in the refrigerator an is administered 1/2 cc per >> dog per month using a syringe to squirt it into the dog's mouth. I cant get him in CS> faster though this weekend I may call around for any open clinic and CS> explain over the phone what i need and see if they can take him for a CS> quick solution. CS> I just dont know what to get and dont want to risk his health with CS> something 'wrong' for him. Most people get pills from the vet for heartworm prevention. IIRC they're a bit pricey, though, one pill a month at about $10 each. Which is why I went the other way, I have nine dogs (managed to give one away last week) and $90/month for heartworm plus $160/month for dog food is way over budget. BTW for flea and tick control you can use Frontline (available at the vet or at your supermarket) at about $3-4/dose once a month, you can buy a flea collar that will last 3 or 4 months for about $7 or you can put a teaspoon of white vinegar per quart of water in the dog's drinking bowl at about $2/gallon - and there are an awful lot of teaspoons in a gallon. I've been doing that for a couple of years now and the dogs don't have fleas. Thanks to Jerry Baker's pamphlet 'Vinegar Secrets' for that tidbit. --- FleetStreet 1.19+* Origin: Bob's Boneyard, Emerson, Iowa (1:300/3) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 14/300 34/999 53/558 90/1 106/1 120/228 123/500 134/10 140/1 SEEN-BY: 222/2 226/0 236/150 249/303 261/20 38 100 1404 1406 1410 1418 SEEN-BY: 266/1413 280/1027 320/119 396/45 633/260 262 267 712/848 800/432 SEEN-BY: 2222/700 2320/100 105 200 2905/0 @PATH: 300/3 14/5 140/1 261/38 633/260 267 |
