INdeed it was. A few years ago we were loading out of my home in Des
Moines Iowa's inner city to go play a show. I've told folks about Buddy,
my doberman/shepherd/dane cross who looked like Marmaduke in the funny
papers before here. we'll get to his part in this adventure shortly.
My neighbor had seen a couple of folks she regularly didn't see coming out
of my apartment carrying sound equipment, etc. These were pickup musicians
hired for the evening, folks I knew but didn't regularly come by the house.
Hence neighbor lady became concerned when she didn't see me and thought
there might be theft involved. I was busy coiling cables that we had out
for some rehearsals, organizing other equipment as well.
One of the fellows there was my good friend and guitar playing partner, and
he was loading his guitar amp and something else in his car. Two other guys
were wrestling a huge speaker cabinet into the back of a van nearby. The
police showed up, the door was standing wide open and the cop went to my
friend Al right away. Buddy seeing Al being accosted by a stranger ran to
see his friend Al. The cop seeing BUddy's size and quickness moved to put a
car between him and dog, meanwhile reaching for his sidearm. Albert called
to buddy quickly and told the policeman it was alright. The cop was
assuming the position and taking aim when Buddy reached al. COp ended up
petting buddy and making friends, but he just about went to doggie heaven
that afternoon.
Had a NEw ORleans policeman stop me while out walking our first ROttweiler
Roxy one night. Thanks to all ROxy's medical problems previously described
here in this echo she was bloated, looked pregnant. i was a bit nervous
when patrolman called me over to his car. What he wanted was to know when
she was going to drop pups, as he wanted a ROttie pup. He was disappointed
when I explained to him she was well past breeding age. THen I told her
ROxy's history. hE said he'd seen her in our old neighborhood but didn't
realize it was same dog, as she was a stray then and looked pretty ragged.
Regards,
Richard
