Hi Jorj:
JS> What, you didn't like that skinny 12-page booklet? What's worse
JS> is that it's only a summary; for more info you're supposed to
JS> look at the online help. But then you get that bit in READ.ME:
I guess I'll stand up and take some heat on this score: I've lobbied
long and hard for SemWare to put all the functionality into the help
system which would be needed to eliminate dependence on printed
ocumentation.
Based on my asessment of TSE Pro 2.5, they have been successful at this.
I'm not suggesting that my opinions are "right", just sharing them.
As a "mobile professional", manuals are useless to me: They weigh a
ton and tear up quickly after the first 50,000 miles. Personnally, I'd
like all software companies to put more effort into highly usable and
complete online help, and save the expense of "weighty tomes" which collect
dust on my bookshelf. Saving a little here means more R & D funds for
enhancing the core editor functionality.
On the core functionality front, I think SemWare has knocked itself out on
2.5.
Sort is an order of magnitude faster on large files.
The Restore State macro is a very nice "slim-line" alternative
            to Projects
The new FileManager is good; (and with the source included, you can
make it work like your favorite file manager.
        Persistent History is absolutely wonderful.
Features have been added to prevent file access conflicts in
            multiuser situations
In addition to hex mode display, TSE 2.5 now allows editing
            in hexmode.
        Windows can be scrolled simultaneously.
TSE can now copy or paste from the Windows clipboard under
            Win 3.1 or Win95.
Search & Find capabilities have been significantly improved with
built-in searching across files and built-in viewer options
            for found text.
The source level macro debugger is an accomplishment which simply
floors me. (Especially when you remember that most compiler
vendors lacked source level debugging for years and then
offered it as a separate product costing MORE than the
            compiler for years after that.
        Visual file comparison utilities.
        CUA style block handling.
A high speed integrated file finder.
The macro language has been enhanced with for loops, do loops,
set handling, register variables, seemless access to
DOS interrupts, inline 80x86, instruction handling,
            substring manipulation functions, memory pointers,
direct access to PC interrupts & I/O ports.
Instant online access to any word contained in the help system.
These are just a few of the hundreds of additions I worked with during the
TSE Pro 2.5 testing. Perhaps some folks would like to see some of these
features gone in favor of glitzier docs. For my money, I'll keep the
features.
I hope you grow to like your TSE Pro 2.5. I couldn't do without mine!
Regards,
Mike Chambers
