subject: photochromic glasses

-> Clip-ons are good idea (or, as you have, magneted-ons). But, they don't hav
-> to be an alternative -- they can be used with the photochromic
lenses.

I thought about that. But the clip-ons would prevent the main lenses
from darkening, so what's the point of paying for them? Also, I rather
often have to go from the brightness of full sunlight outdoors into a
very dark space. If I don't wear any kind of shades outdoors, it takes
my eyes about 15 minutes to become fully adjusted to the darkness. If I
wear shades outdoors and remove them as soon as I go in, I can see
reasonably well right away. But if I had photochromic lenses, I'd have
to wait for them to clear, which again would take a few minutes. Right?

-> I also have a pair of glasses with polaroid lenses used for driving only (no
-> bifocal). They stay in my car at all times, and I use them only when I'm
-> driving or riding in mu car.

I used to do that kind of thing, but now I don't bother.

Recently, I have noticed that I am less aware than I should be of
things out in the periphery of my vision when I'm driving. After
visiting the eye doctor, the reason is obvious. My glasses are
progressive bifocals with positive prescriptions. Since the old ones
were too weak, I was unconsciously looking through the lower parts of
the lenses so as to get some extra power. But the field of vision lower
down is much narrower than it is at the top, so my peripheral vision is
blurrier than it should be.

The new glasses should fix that...
