Subject: [drakelist] Bathing Drakes?

HI all:

My apologies if this has been discussed before here - don't recall seeing it
discussed specifically with reference to Drake rigs.

I acquired a couple of TR4C's that could use a bath - one in particular.
They both work well - very well! But one is absolutely filthy with smoker's
grime and dust which demands I go beyond my usual Q-Tip, cloth, and alcohol
(for the swab, not me!) cleaning methods.

I know the gray box guys talk about removing the meter, the PTO, tubes,
front panel, then spray with favourite degreaser, hose down with water, and
leave in the sun or bake in the oven at below plastic-melting temperatures.
I have yet to try it though I have had an HRO-60 here for three years
awaiting such an endeavour. Has anyone tried this with your 4 -line rig?

I can't help but worry about survivability of the coil forms inside the cans
and the switch wafers on getting sprayed with Simple Green or some such
smoke removing cleaner, then water. I don't think I'd put the PTO through
such an ordeal.

Comments anyone?

Thanks in advance and 73

Peter
