Same here but I fail to understand why they would even waste a computer for
this, buy a network disk device and use network printers or print servers.
F&P is a commodity function in todays world. The flexibility of network
printers or print servers is fantastic compared to a server based solution
of any kind.
The only time I see where an NT server can be enticing for F&P is when
you are running a domain for the common login functions. Then I can see
where the security model can be enough of a draw to justify the expense.
I would guess that the draw to use Linux for straight F&P would be
where you have a spare machine with lots of disk sitting idle, then you
could save the costs of a network drive and print servers by downloading
and installing linux assuming you can get it setup in a reasonable amount
of time. But to my way of thinking it's really easy to end up spending more
time setting it up than the network disk/print servers would cost so you
gotta be good to do it efficiently.
