SB> experience. But, if I recall my history correctly, a lot of those taxes
SB> got created as a way to fund the programs that kept a lot of other
SB> people alive during the Great Depression. I have talked with people
SB> who were of voting age during the thirties. Heck, I have elderly
SB> friends who were in their thirties during part of the thirties and
SB> remember them quite well. They inform me that not only did those
SB> programs created from the taxes help keep people alive, but the
SB> majority of the population strongly supported the taxes, and the
SB> president (FDR, I'm sure you recall) who created the taxes and the
SB> programs they made possible.
Unfortunately, what the people _didn't_ know (or maybe they just didn't
are)
what havoc and devastation many of the "New Deal" programs would wreak on
he
environment. Here in the Pacific Northwest we have to live with Grand Coulee
Dam and its hundreds of clones everyday.
