That is the whole point in the bottles. The water is fresh longer because
the birds can't get it all dirty. As long as the bottle is not growing black
fungus your fine. My Macaw was bottle trained when I bought him. I bought
one of the bottles, expensive damn thing, and I should have known better.
Since he is left out of his cage when we are here he within days learned to
take the damn thing off the cage and toss it on the floor . It's too bad
they are nice. If we are gone for the better part of a day both of his water
dishes are full of junk, but I had to relegate the bottle to the "junk
drawer". For birds that can't take them off the cage though they are great,
and the water stays clean.
