It could very well be as you suggest -- I wouldn't be a bit surprised if

Yahoo ACTIVELY participates.  They deem your personal information to be
their property to do with as they wish, including providing it to "mass
marketers."  (Spammers, of course).  I try to avoid Yahoo like the plague.

they're stupid enough to think I'M stupid enough not to know who my
legitimate creditors are?  Oh, gads.
