It's not 'recent'.  The original developer of the PRO-43 Shortwave & Extended 
Receive mod is Al Mellon N8KLI,  n8kli@aol.com.
Andrew Porrett's recent posting of a derivative of that mod looks to be in 
harmony with the original and maybe a little better.

It works.  Just don't expect any miracles.  The RF front end of the PRO-43 
really isn't designed for below 30 MHz, which needs a bandpass filter all its 
own for best performance.  Still......all in all, it works.
Andrew's derivation appears that it might work better than the original 
because he eliminates the 30-54 MHz bandpass filter that would otherwise 
attenuate shortwave signals.  What it does to VHF-Lo signals for normal 
scanning is unknown.  Perhaps Andrew will comment on that.
