G'morning... Teachers are'nt the only ones to slip into strife. The NZ Land & Transport Safety Authority (LTSA) just have produced a TV advertisement which claims verbally and visually that... * Crashing at 90kph is equivalent to falling one storey * Crashing at 110kph = falling 5 storeys * Crashing at 125kph = falling 9 storeys ...which just goes to prove that a little extra speed multiplies the carnage... On being corrected by a newspaper correspondent, the LTSA huffed and puffed about modern-day cars, airbags and safety belts altering the physics of the situation, and stated that the ads were having a mighty effect. Argghhh ! Anyway, I've written suggesting they send their proofs to the Royal Society and the Nobel Prize people, `cos it'll significantly alter Einstein's work. The LTSA magic castle obviously changes its dimensions as its picks up speed... Actual Number Actual Height of Speed Storeys Height 1 storey 90 1 31.9m 31.9m 110 5 47.6m 9.5m 125 9 61.0m 6.8m ...without getting anywhere near the speed of light. A quick measuring of this house shows 1 storey to be close to 4m or 13 feet.... one wonders how the LTSA building measures up at rest. I suspect their scenario was `visualised' by their art-director or copywriter - the sort of expert who knows that 1 + 1 = 3 for very large values of 1. :-)) ___ MultiMail/MS-DOS v0.45 --- Maximus/2 3.01* Origin: === Maxie BBS.
