Answering msg from Paul Edwards to Bill Grimsley,
on Thursday May 11 1995 at 18:16

PE> Now come down to reality. Msged is 200k. Golded is 600k. Whoopy
PE> bloody do. 400k will set you back a massive 22 cents worth of
PE> disk space, for millions of features. And I can assure you that
PE> I'll only be implementing either simple features, or ones that I
 PE> personally want.

GoldED is so bloated because it has a lot of hand holding and debugging
information included in the EXE. It would be nice if a couple of versions
were released concurrently, one WITH the debugging, one WITHOUT. Then if
you have a consistent problem, you run the debug version and it reports all
the lovely function track dumps and verbose errors.

99.99999999% of the time (ie when it's stable and working), it's just a
waste of bloody space, and slows it down.

PE> If you feel that way, don't write the PD stuff in the first place.
PE> In fact, if you think that it's so quick to turn a buck from PD
PE> code, create a rival to Golded, and just watch the money roll in.
PE> Golded wasn't PM last time I looked, some people like PM, so you
PE> could stick a PM interface on it and make a profit from that.
PE> Don't waste time on templates though, you can lift that from
PE> msged hopefully. Capitalism works, Bill, as the Russians found
PE> out to their sorrow. BFN. Paul.

If "PM" in your above sentence refers to protected mode, that
has been available in GoldED for a year or two. There are now three
versions: real mode DOS, PM DOS, OS/2.
