From the Maximus V2 docs -
[hex] - %x
This command is not needed by Maximus, and is included for
OECC compatibility only.
I have no idea what OECC is/was but obviously its not needed. If you wish
to construct binary data then you can probably do that in MEX instead, MEX
is quite capable.
