From: Steven Durrett John - I agree with you that people should be allowed to practice "psychedelic religions". My position is based, however, not on my obsession with religious freedom, but on my belief that the drug laws are ridiculous when applied to adults. I do not believe that violation of "proper" laws (say, murder) can be justified on the basis of "religious freedom". For example, if a real, old fashioned Ba'alist church (requiring sacrifice of a couple's first male child) appeared in my neighborhood, I'd have no qualms about putting its members in jail post haste, on a charge of conspiracy to commit murder. Can you think of any law that you believe is generally legitimate that you would allow to be circumvented on the grounds of "religious freedom"?
