Hey Den,
DB> You are in for more surprises, getting complacent in your old
DB> age. That is Miriam's second work on Access, her 1st, HELP! Microsoft
DB> Access, came out a couple years ago. The good news is she has since
I was truly surprised. I wish I had seen her book before I bought
Alan Simpson's Mastering Access 97 because I would have bought it.
Alan is an Access defector because buried somewhere I know I have a book
or two on dBase IV (or III+?) from him.
DB> done one for FoxPro 3.0x! The most important item, is that you can
DB> catch up with her every month, in Miriam's FoxPro Advisor column.
DB> Miriam is an extremely bright lady, the market for Access books is
DB> probably 20 times that of FP. Here in the high-tech mecca, I have
ANYTHING Miriam writes is excellent! Unfortunately, I may see FoxPro
Advisor here in good ole Windsor maybe only twice a year - dats life in
the big city...:). You're probably right in that she'll sell a lot more
books on Access than she will on FoxPro - smart $$ move.
DB> seen few books on FPW 5, and I really looked again just recently ( I
DB> understand they have a bigger selection, in the Lone Star State). I do
DB> not feel 5 adds that much to what you have in 3.0, it just does it
DB> better & Faster. I think 95% of what is in one of the better tomes on 3
DB> will still apply to 5 also. So, I will still recommend the basically
DB> the same titles:
DB> ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
DB> ~~~~ The Complete FoxPro 2.5 Language Reference by David McClanhan & Ray
DB> Owens ISBN: 0-7821-1101-7 SYBEX Inc. Telex: 336311 Fax: (510)
DB> 523-2373 (Covers both the FoxPro for Windows and FoxPro for DOS)
DB> Visual FoxPro Expert Solutions by Miriam Liskin from Que
DB> Corporation
DB> The Visual FoxPro 3 Codebook by Y. Alan Griver/SYBEX ISBN:
DB> 0-7821-1648-5
DB> ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now these two have my attention. The books I got on VFP 3 (VFP 3
Unleashed & VFP 3 Developer's Guide) aren't too bad - the store was going
out of business - I paid about $25 total for both. David also gave me a
name of a VFP "cookbook" too. A local computer store is going to drastically
increase it's book selection in a couple of weeks. They arranged a deal
whereby they can send books back that have been sitting a few months for
new titles. They are expecting some VFP books so I'm going to see what
they get in - hopefully some good titles!
Take Care
