 When moderators kill echoes, 1 or 2 self-appointed fidocops have
 been grabbing the echotags for themselves and keeping them in the
 echolist in perpetuality.

 When you add an echo to your system, there is no guarantee that
 the echo is even being distributed, let alone "active".  Many
 others are not even Fido echoes.  AmberNet and FamilyNet are 2
 of the largest non-Fido groups which enter echotags into the
 echolist.

 Kinda hard to do what you suggest about the situation when the
 echolist is not mentioned in P4 and is really an unofficial
 document or "piece of paper".
