Re: Dogs and food [1] By: Richard Webb to Cindy Haglund on Tue Jun 03 2008 03:18 am > > RW> have mosquitoes you're gonna have heartworm, and mosquitoes are True. And when I was "in dogs" (1973-1995) as a show breeder-exhibitor, first heartworm medication was a DAILY PILL and I was lucky to have small dogs (Beagles) because the size for them was so much cheaper than for Rottweilers, etc. Even so it cost me a LOT of $$$ every month because I was giving a pill a day to anywhere between 6 and 16 dogs depending on whether it was in the beginning or later on when I was housing a bunch of retired champions who were moving toward senior citizen status. Once I got to the 14-16 range it stayed there as I added the pick of litter puppies at one end while the old ones died off at the other. A couple of times, fortunately after heartworm pills were once a month, the population got to 18-20 because the seniors who died at 12 or 13 now had lifespans of 15-17 thanks to medical technology advances and new treatments for contagious illnesses like Parvovirus. When I stopped being a breeder and exhibitor I had 7 or 8 dogs. The last one died in 2001 and since then I've been dogless because of situations that made it not possible to properly safekeep one on my property. One of the best medical advances for owners of multiple dogs was the once a month heartworm pill and the other was the vaccines against Parvo and Kennel Cough. --- SBBSecho 2.12-Win32* Origin: Collin County Station (1:124/6308) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 34/999 53/558 106/1 120/228 123/500 140/1 222/2 226/0 236/150 SEEN-BY: 249/303 250/306 261/20 38 100 1404 1406 1410 1418 266/1413 280/1027 SEEN-BY: 320/119 396/45 633/260 267 712/848 800/432 2222/700 2320/100 105 200 SEEN-BY: 2905/0 @PATH: 124/6308 5025 123/500 261/38 633/260 267 |
