Season's Greetings John,
JD> HA!!! Thats what I didn' do to mine...No wonder I don't catch much..What
JD> is the "properP way to retro christen a boat?
-------------------
he-he, there was an article on renaming a boat in 48 North a few
months ago. It's considered bad luck to rename as it is to "forget" to
christian a boat. While I don't have the article with me, I did go through
the process with a friend when he bought his new boat over the summer and
changed the name. The basic jist of it is to have a bottle of bubbly,
beer, wine (or whatever fancies you) on hand and prepare a simple cerimony
consisting of a few statements and the option of drinking your liquid
offering - or pouring, smashing, dumping, whatever - on the boat. The
statements basically give thanks for all the "good luck" recieved in the
past under the old name, and requests good luck for the present and future
under the new name. When we did it, we had the boat siiting on the hard
while we sat in the cockpit with beer in hand. The statements were read
and we drank! Very simple, very effective :^) If you want to keep the
existing name, just follow the same sort of process and request good luck,
safe journeys, etc.
Cheers,
Augustin~~~===
