SB> I'd like to shy away from the movies for a bit, and talk about the
SB> books. In particular, Shadows of the Empire. I'd like to hear other
SB> people's opinion on it. I, personally didn't care for it. The story
SB> was good but Perry ruined it with his ending. Xizor died way too
SB> easily. Vader just pushed a button, and poof, no more Xizor, it was
SB> much too rushed.
I think that's all that needed to happen, though. You can't cross Vader
(not for very long, anyway).
SB> It felt like on one page he was in complete control and then on the
SB> next he was a billion atoms floated in the inhospitible vaccum of
SB> space.
I liked the way the balance of power was played out in that book. Vader
was just waiting for the right time to strike at Xixor, and that was it.
SB> I feel the same way about Dash's abrupt demise. Way too fast. Not that
SB> I'm complaining about the character's dying, but you'd think they'd
SB> dramitize it more,
I fully agree with you here. Dash's death just didn't make any sense.
He just.. died. In an instant, and for no real reason.
SB> I just don't think it fit in with GL's style of Star Wars, and yet
SB> Shadow's is the only book that GL has officially accepted into his Star
SB> Wars universe.
What? Shadows is the project that Lucasfilm itself was most involved
with. While the story was created by people at Lucasfilm, the designs were
done by them, etc., it clearly falls into the realm of those things outside
of the films. Lucas made no special announcement proclaiming SOTE as part
of his "official" saga. Of course, if you'd like to believe in your heart
that it is, go right ahead.
It's certainly "closer" to the films, since it takes place inside of them..
