Subject: PA-RKBA! Canadian Gun Registraton Deadline Approaches
Friends,
Below is an article from a Canadian newspaper regarding the government's
total gun registration scheme. Canadian gun owners are different from
American gun owners in as much as they only see guns as toys for
recreational shooting. Self defense rarely is mentioned as a legitimate
reason to own a gun. In spite of that, there a significant number of
Canadians who are vocally proclaiming their refusal to register by the
January first deadline. Anyone who has an unregistered gun on January 1st,
2003 is facing 5 years in jail.
At the moment it appears that the registry is so hopelessly screwed up
that these protesters may be successful at killing it. It has been
interesting to watch over the last couple of years leading up to the
deadline. Watch the Canadian newspapers during January, it could be
instructive.
Anyone interested in following the action can subscribe to the Canadian

Owners vow to kill gun registry

The nation's gun owners smell blood and are stepping up the campaign to
kill Bill C-68, the federal government's controversial gun registration
legislation.
Last week's revelation by the auditor general that a gun registry program
supposed to cost $2 million to implement will actually cost $1 billion is
music to the ears of organizations like LUFA, whose founder was in Windsor
to drum up support for a civil disobedience campaign.
Local LUFA chapter president Wayne Fields said the debacle proves gun
owners have little to fear when it comes to enforcement of the gun law.
"With the events of last week there is no reason and no excuse
whatsoever to register a firearm at this time," Fields said.
"It is our trump card. It is what will bring this legislation down."
LUFA founder Bruce Hutton spoke to more than 300 angry gun owners Monday at
the Fogular Furlan Club. He was joined by representatives of other
organizations like the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters and the
Safari Club International, groups who have condemned the bill since its
introduction in 1995.
The final deadline for registering firearms is supposed to be Jan. 1,
2003; after that date, possession of an unregistered firearm will be
considered a criminal offence.
But Hutton is urging all law-abiding gun owners to break the law and refuse
to register their weapons.
"This is not about guns," Hutton said. "It's about the
future of freedom in this country. We can be good little Canadians, little
sheep who bitch and complain but don't do anything ... or we can stand up
and fight."
Hutton said the most effective way to protest is through civil disobedience
and non-compliance. And LUFA is more than willing to show people how to
accomplish this.
"I can't stand up here and tell you to break the law," Hutton
said. "But I have."
Refusing to register
Besides refusing to register, LUFA recommends protesters adopt their plan
known as "Operation Overload," bombarding the Canadian Firearms
Centre with false applications for people who do not exist and letters
asking obscure questions about the law.
"It will plug up the firearms centre with inquiries and
applications," Hutton said.
"It's dirty, but if you don't want to get down and dirty in this
struggle you better get in better shape. Because the only way you're going
to be able to hunt a moose soon is to outrun him and slash his
throat."
Local hunters and gun owners gave Hutton a standing ovation after his
speech and clustered around a table to sign on for LUFA membership.
"This is the only way we are going to be able to keep our guns,"
said one hunter. "We have a real fight on our hands."
